This 4-CD set features works by Braunfels, Berlioz, Dvořák, Bruckner, Naumann, Handel, and Bizet. The Te Deum is the most universally used of all Latin hymns, beginning with "Te Deum laudamus" (I praise Thee, O God). It is the most universally used of all Latin hymns, which is why so many composers have left their works, and many of these masterpieces are still performed today. This live recording of Braunfels' "Te Deum" made by maestro Günter Wandt in 1952 was recorded at a commemorative concert held in the year composer Walter Braunfels (1882-1954) turned 70 years old. Braunfels, whose talent blossomed after the hardships of World War I, was a musician who attracted attention with his unique style that strongly leaned toward the late Romanticism. Berlioz's Te Deum is the twin of the Requiem in terms of spatial effects and overwhelming sound on a grand scale. The performance effect of the huge and special ceremonial orchestration is more characteristic of Berlioz, who was not a believer in Christianity, than its religious character. The extraordinary composition and arrangement of the organ, orchestra, two three-part chorus groups, and a children's chorus of 600 singers, gives the piece a unique sense of space that is almost abnormal. The organ is facing the orchestra, and the children's chorus is separated from the two chorus groups, so that the orchestra is used independently of the chorus, and the organ is used independently of the chorus.
