Description:
The supreme elgar of Sir Colin Davis' art LSO is now available as a set! Includes first recordings by Pappano and De Burgos! Elgar works by the London Symphony Orchestra are now available in a boxed set. In addition to the symphony conducted by Sir Colin Davis, this remarkable release includes the first recording of Elgar's contemporary composer, Vaughan Williams, conducted by Pappano, and the famous performance of "Dignity" with Barry Tuckwell! The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) was founded in 1904, and Elgar conducted the orchestra in its early years. From 1926 to 1932, Elgar recorded his own works with the LSO, and these recordings became a benchmark for many conductors. Sir Colin Davis (1927-2013), who was greatly influenced by these recordings, also had an extraordinary attachment to Elgar. He described Elgar as "big and round, like Falstaff, who liked to take his dog for walks along the riverbank. He could be mischievous and melancholic at the same time, and this duality, which is also evident in his work, is a great attraction," Davis said. In the score, Elgar was a composer who had a clear idea of what he wanted the piece to do, and he would write, "poco accelerando (gradually faster), then subito tempo primo (immediately back to the original tempo)," and the listener would follow the instructions. If the listener follows these instructions, he or she will feel as if he or she has suddenly fallen off the horse. Elgar's detailed instructions in the score must always be read and understood carefully." He studied the meticulous reading of the score as if he were reading between the lines. The live performance that Davis recorded has long been passed down as the new definitive edition of Elgar's works. ≪This is the first appearance on the LSO label of the "Dignitaries" conducted by Barry Tuckwell, who was the principal horn player of the LSO from 1955 to 1968.The winds also sound dynamic here, and it is a tight performance with Tuckwell and the LSO, who can be said to have laid the foundation for a world-renowned wind section. The Vaughan-Williams conducted by Pappano is the first recording of the work. The work was premiered in 1910 with the LSO strings under the composer's own baton. The strings alone give the work a serene, austere, and mysterious atmosphere, like the sound of an organ, as if lost in the world of an extremely beautiful science fiction movie. You can enjoy the beautiful songs and sounds led by Pappano. The Cello Concerto is also a first recording. It is conducted by de Burgos (1933-2014), who was a regular guest with the London Symphony Orchestra. The solo cello is played by the British virtuoso Felix Schmidt, who became an honorary associate at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has been busy teaching at the conservatory. From the opening of the piece's intense lamentation, he delivers it with the full dignity of a British master. De Burgos also delivers a dark, undulating melody in a furious fashion.
