Direct DSD mastered from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman, HYBRID SACD specification, playable on all CD/SACD players Steely Dan's gold-selling third studio album, Pretzel Logic, charted at #8 on the Billboard 200. It charted at #8 on the Billboard 200 and revived the group's radio presence with the single "Rikki Don't Loose That Number," the biggest pop hit of their career, reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. 1974's album was produced by Gary Katz, and featured a number of new artists including, Walter Becker (bass) and bandleader Donald Fagen (vocals, keyboards) were the main songwriters. The album marked the beginning of Becker and Fagen's careers as principal members of Steely Dan.They used prominent Los Angeles studio musicians to record this album, but with the exception of the drums, they only occasionally overdubbed, with founding drummer Jim Hodder becoming a backing singer, and Jim Gordon and Jeff Porcaro instead hitting the drum kit on every song on the album. The band's first album, "The Souls of Steely Dan," was released in 1985. Steely Dan's Jeff "Skunk" Baxter played pedal steel guitar and hand drums. The album has shorter songs and fewer instrumental jams than its predecessor. Steely Dan considered this album to be the band's attempt to make a complete musical statement within the three-minute pop song format. The music on this album is characterized by harmonies, counter-melodies, and bop phrasing. It also draws heavily from straight-ahead pop influences." The syncopated piano line at the beginning of "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" evolves into a pop melody, while the title track transitions from blues to a jazzy chorus.The album cover photo, featuring a New York City pretzel vendor, was taken by Ryan Rubenstein, a photographer of musicians and Hollywood celebrities, on the west side of Fifth Avenue and 79th Street, just above the 79th Street crossing (the road through Central Park), at the " The photo was taken at the entrance to a park called MINERS' GATE.
