The Trio Zimmermann consists of Frank Peter Zimmermann, Antoine Tamestit and Christian Portela. The five albums they have recorded for the BIS label are now available as a bargain set! Trio Zimmermann was formed in 2007. Zimmermann, who says that "the trio is the best ensemble for me," had been looking for a player who could play in the best ensemble for many years. Tammesti then offered his trusty cellist Christian Portela, and Trio Zimmermann was formed. Their performances, which convey the true value of the works, have been highly acclaimed since their formation, and they have recorded J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schoenberg, and Hindemith. For Bach's Golberg Variations, they recorded their own arrangement of Bach's Golberg Variations with the idea of "proposing a string trio version that basically clarifies Bach's score, with as few arrangements and octave shifts as possible. They gave a fine performance that clearly conveys the significance of playing with string instruments. Mozart's Divertimento was given a perfect score by almost all the composers in Record Geijutsu magazine's "500 Masterpieces of the New Era" special issue. It was described as "an outstanding performance of the highest standard of achievement by a meticulous ensemble, even for a fool in the history of performance. Hindemith's String Trio No. 1 and No. 2 are products of 1924 and 1933, respectively. The works from this period, along with the transition to neo-imagism and neo-classicism, have a very rich sound with a thorough understanding of the characteristics of each instrument, as only Hindemith, a string musician, could. Schoenberg's String Trio in a single movement is from 1946. It is a masterpiece from the last years of Schoenberg's life, when he was the standard-bearer of twelve-tone music.Enjoy the superb string trio performance with F.P.
