The third volume of the "Musical Heritage of Flanders" series, a collection of piano sonatas by Joseph Rylant! This is the third volume of the "Flemish Musical Heritage" series featuring the piano works of the late Belgian Romantic Joseph Rylant (1870-1965). Rylant was influenced by Wagner and modern French composers such as Franck and Fauré, but he emphasized the creation of universal beauty rather than originality. The recording includes two sonatas written in his youth, the expressive "Six Preludes," Op. 62, and the late Sonatas Nos. 10 and 11, which were written in his mature period. Composed over a period of about 50 years, from 1887 to 1935, they clearly show the transition in style from Romantic passion to a clear-cut neoclassical language. The performance is by Josef de Beynhauer, who has worked on numerous Flemish compositions and is a renowned scholar of Schumann and his wife. The production of the album was done with the cooperation of the Research Center for Flemish Music, following an exhaustive study of the documents and scores. Tokyo M-Plus
