Description:
An Exploration of Unknown Clavousin Music by a Performer Who Cares About Even His Costumes Charles-Alexandre Jorage, a musician of the late French Baroque period, is known to have served the tumultuous Polish king in exile, but there has never been a comprehensive recording of his works. It is good news that this is the world's first complete recording of the only surviving collection of Jolaj's works in clavesan. Fernando de Luca, who plays the harpsichord, is an old instrumentalist who is particular about his costumes, and has previously recorded the complete clavesan works of Christophe Moiraud (7CD), Christophe Graupner (14CD), Nicolas Schiret (1CD), Handel: Harpsichord from the Bergamo Codex (1CD), and others. (1CD), and Handel's harpsichord pieces from the Bergamo manuscripts (1CD). About Jollage Charles-Alexandre Jollage is estimated to have been born around 1700, married Nicole Breaux in Paris in 1723, died on November 19, 1752, and died in Paris on April 6, 1761. The Polish king whom Jollage served was Stanislaw I Leszczynski [1677-1766], a former Polish king who had settled in Wissembourg, Alsace, in 1718. He gave his daughter in marriage to Louis XV and moved to the Château de Chambord in the Loire, where he stayed until the death of the Polish king, Augustus II, in 1733. Jollage served Stanislaw I somewhere between 1718 and 1733, but documents from the time indicate that the French composer Louis Homme [1691-1777] was employed as Stanislaw I's musical director during his reign at Chambord Castle, so it is possible that Jollage served Stanislaw I in 1733. In 1733, Jorage settled in Paris, probably as a clavecin teacher, and in 1738, he published a collection of clavecin pieces, which was published by Clermont d'Amboise. dedicated to the Marquise de Clermont d'Amboise. In 1755, Jollage was appointed one of the four organists at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and from then until his death in 1761, he lived in Paris as organist. Although the first collection of Jollage's harpsichord works was never published, its elegant and refined style, clear and balanced structure, and delicate use of ornamentation and harmony are fascinating, not only for the taste that prevailed in France in the first half of the 18th century, but also for the creative touches that are found here and there. The "Italians," the last piece of the first suite, shows a style similar to that of Domenico Scarlatti and Haydn's sonatas. (1/2)
