Always You
Description:
AlwaysYou, a band formed by the Hochheim brothers from Los Angeles—who are also members of BeachFossils and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart—has released their album *Against the World*, produced by Wild Nothing! AlwaysYou, the Los Angeles-based brother duo consisting of Christoph Hochheim and Anton Hochheim, has released their album *Against the World*, produced by WildNothing. Drummer Anton is a member of BeachFossils, while guitarist and vocalist Christoph has been active as the guitarist for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart since their reunion—the two have truly been central figures in the 2010s U.S. indie scene. For this album, they welcomed WildNothing’s frontman Jack Tatum—who has also served as a session guitarist and drums on previous projects, has been brought on as the main producer for this new collaboration. WildNothing, originally known for their dream pop sound, has shifted its focus toward dance and pop music centered around ’80s synth-pop on their latest release, *Hold*. In Japan, they showcased their perfect pop style through a collaborative single with Ichijusanshi, and on this album as well, by infusing synth-pop elements into Always You’s sound—which already had strong 80s soft-pop influences—they’ve created an album that lets listeners experience a new side of Always You, one that makes you want to dance to the groove more than ever before, utilizing everything from the attack of the beats to the synth sounds. The album includes not only synth-pop tracks like the title track “Against the World” and Track 2, “Eye to Eye,” but also the disco-style “Shadowplay” and “Walking on Air,” which brings out AlwaysYou’s inherent soft charm. Furthermore, the album includes a Japan-exclusive bonus track featuring vocals by Erika Murphy of Luby Sparks.
