Guns N' Roses' long-awaited third and fourth studio albums, "You're Your Illusion I" and "You're Your Illusion II," were originally released simultaneously on September 17, 1991. You're Your Illusion I" reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and "You're Your Illusion II" reached No. 1, a one-two finish. It is estimated that more than 500,000 copies were sold in the first two hours after its release, while the former sold 685,000 copies and the latter sold more than 770,000 copies in the first week after its release.

You're Your Illusion I includes an over-the-top cover of Paul McCartney's "Livin' and Lettin' Die," the U.S. Top 10 hit "Don't Cry," and one of their "ultimate hard rock power ballads," described by NPR (National Public Radio) as "one of the ultimate hard rock power ballads. The album includes "November Rain," one of their most popular anthems of the 90s and an MTV classic, which was described as "one of the ultimate hard rock power ballads" by NPR (National Public Radio). For the first time ever, a new version of "November Rain" will be recorded, conducted, and arranged by composer Christopher Lennertz in 2021, and will feature a live 50-piece orchestra for the first time ever.

You're Your Illusion II will include the band's Top 50 single "You Cooked Be Mine," "Civil War," which reached #4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on the Heaven's Door," In addition, another version of "Don't Cry" with different lyrics is also included.
The box set includes 97 songs in total, 63 of which are previously unreleased material and footage.
