Around 1904, Grainger (1882-1961) and a friend first heard the sound of the saxophone (saxophone), and he wrote to his friend about his impressions. The tone is like a voice. Grainger made a great effort to promote the characteristics and tone of this fascinating instrument, which was not well known at the time, by arranging Baroque music by Bach and Jenkins and several Norwegian folk songs for it. He has made extensive use of the saxophone. These arrangements, which make extensive use of the saxophone, are polyphonic and exquisite, while utilizing the elegant tone of the instrument. On this album, Griggs has edited the music himself, making it even more organized. This is a piece that bursts with Grainger's "saxophone love," as he often uses the saxophone in his own orchestral works. Naxos Japan
