The one and only collaboration, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 "Pathetique" by Martinon and the VPO, remastered and reissued after six and a half years! From the ProducerIn the spring of 1958, Decca invited the French conductor Martinon to make a new recording of this masterpiece of Russian music with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. There was no concert of this combination before or after the recording, and it seems that Martinon and the Vienna Philharmonic met only in a session. However, this enigmatic collaboration resulted in the incomparable and unique "Pathetique". This series was released in September 2017 as GS-2170 using 2-track, 38 cm open-reel tapes, but we have now ordered new tapes and mastered the entire process on professional equipment to ensure that there are no regrets. In order not to dilute the impression of "Pathetique," the one and only joint performance, this CD was produced with only one piece, not combined with other performances.
