Description:
Thielemann & Vienna Philharmonic Bruckner Bicentennial Project "Bruckner 11/Bruckner 11" Finally Completed! The last project by Thielemann & Vienna Philharmonic for the bicentennial of Bruckner's birth in 2024, "Bruckner 11", is the complete Bruckner symphonies in C major, including the 5th symphony, the "Study Symphony", "WAB 99 in F minor" and "WAB 99 in D minor", which is called the "Study Symphony". The first volume of the complete Bruckner symphonies in C major features the Fifth Symphony and the "Study Symphony" in F minor WAB 99 and D minor WAB 100, performed and recorded for the first time in the history of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The second volume includes No. 1 using the Vienna manuscript and No. 7 performed at the Salzburg Festival in August 2021. The third volume includes No. 2 and No. 8, recorded at the Musikverein in Vienna in 2019. The fourth release is a combination of No. 3, the most revised of the symphonies, and No. 6, the only one that has not been revised. The fifth and final release in the series is a disc of No. 4 and No. 9, both of which were performed at the Salzburg Festival.Because of its "romantic" subtitle and not-too-long playing time, the Fourth Symphony is the most popular of Bruckner's nine symphonies. Thielemann performed it in the second draft of the Haas edition, which is regarded as the closest to Bruckner's final image. The slow tempo carefully spins each note to depict Bruckner's world. The last of Bruckner's symphonies, Symphony No. 9 was unfinished because the composer himself died in the middle of composing the fourth movement of the finale. In the autograph score of the fourth movement left to Bruckner, sketches in various stages of completion exist, and some conductors have tried to use them as material, either playing them as fragments or completing them by supplementation, but Thielemann said, "I think it's fine as it is. Thielemann said, "I think it's fine the way it is. Is there anything missing? Certainly an effort to complete the supplemental work is good, but it is not bad to have a great performance up to the third movement and then disappear into complete silence. No, it would be very good. I will never forget the moving silence of the performance of the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Karajan that I heard when I was young. As for his Bruckner performances and recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic, he said, "Like the Beethoven symphony cycle and the performance of Wagner's Ring, it was a reminder of what he had learned in the past and gave him new perspectives. And with Bruckner, the audience will experience his creative development over the years. We are very fortunate to have been able to do that with the Vienna Philharmonic." King International
