[Rising Star Jeniva Lewis Makes Her Debut! Violin Concertos by Barber and Glass, and the First Recording of a Work by John Zorn] Jeniva Lewis is originally from New Zealand and is currently based in the United States. Selected as a BBC New Generation Artist for 2022–24 and a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, her debut album is a collection of American violin works. It features Samuel Barber’s concerto, which demands lyrical expression and advanced technique, as well as Philip Glass’s Violin Concerto—which he composed to please his father and was heavily influenced by the opera he was working on at the time. The album also features a piece inspired by the sound of the legendary Stradivarius once owned by Saint-Exupéry and now owned by Accardo, “Firebird”—which was once owned by Saint-Exupéry and is now in Accardo’s possession—and which inspired John Zorn to compose a Partita for solo violin, a work brimming with virtuosic passages that pays homage to Stravinsky’s *The Firebird* and Bach. This is the world premiere recording of that piece. Thanks to Lewis’s exceptional technique, the flexible sensibility unique to the younger generation, and his proactive approach, the charm of each work is expressed in its entirety. He is supported by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, led by Gemma New, who won the Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award in 2021. Naxos Japan
