Description:
The complete works for piano and orchestra by Chopin by pianist Abby Simon (1920-2019), born in New York in 1920, are reissued in a newly remastered edition with three tracks from the complete works recorded in 1972 and originally released as a 3-LP set in 1973. Simon showed musical talent from an early age, studying with Josef Hoffmann at the Curtis Institute of Music. He called himself a "19th century pianist" and had a strong affinity for the works of composers who were also virtuoso pianists. His performances were highly acclaimed by Harold Schoenberg, who was known as a harsh critic, for their delicate poetic sentiment. The recording here is from Simon's 52nd year. The piano sounds brilliant, the performance is romantic and poetic, and the climax of the concerto is powerful enough to be heard. The conductor was Heribert Beissel, a long-time friend of Japanese music fans. He studied conducting with Günter Wandt and composition with Frank Martin in Cologne, and began his career as a chorépétiteur at the Bonn Opera, where he served as principal conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra for 15 years. Here, it shows off its prestigious sound and flexible "attaching". This is one of the VOX AUDIOPHILE EDITION, a 24-bit/192 kHz remastering produced by Elite Recordings, renowned for its excellent recordings. The piano is recorded in a close-up style, and the orchestra is recorded in a recording pattern with depth and breadth. The booklet contains a photo of the LP jacket and commentary of the first release. Naxos Japan
