Jäderman, a rich man, is a prodigal who refuses to listen to his mother's reproaches for his conduct, but he is a bitter man to his poor neighbors. One day, while Yearderman is entertaining his mistress and acquaintances, the Grim Reaper suddenly appears and announces Yearderman's death. Jäderman is horrified and asks for help, but everyone is indifferent. ......The play is based on the 15th century English morality play "Everyman" (author unknown) and the 16th century comedy "The Death of a Rich Man" by Hans Sachs, among other works. Hugo von Hoffmanstahl wrote the libretto for "Jedermann," which was directed by Max Reinhardt and premiered in Berlin in 1911. Hoffmanstahl and Reinhardt later collaborated with Richard Strauss to plan a theater and music festival in Salzburg, and on August 22, 1920, "Jedermann" was staged on a special stage in front of the Salzburg Cathedral, marking the birth of the Salzburg Festival. The Salzburg Festival was born.The festival continued to grow with a concert in 1921 and an opera in 1922, and "Jedermann" has become an annual event that has become a symbol of the Salzburg Festival. In the midst of the recent pandemic, "Jedermann" continued to be performed in 2020 and 2009, when the festival was scaled down. The 2022 production in this recording is directed by Michael Stürminger with a contemporary touch. The actors, led by popular actors Lars Eidinger (Jedermann) and Verna Altenberger (Jedermann's lover), give energetic performances against the backdrop of Salzburg Cathedral. Naxos Japan
