Janet Paulus is a harpist from New York City. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in harp from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and after serving as principal harpist of the Mexico State Symphony Orchestra, she became principal harpist of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra. He then performed in New York City, and since 1997 has been based in Mexico City, where he has been principal harpist of the Orquesta Sinfonica Mineria since 2002. On this album, he performs works by three Mexican composers. Several of these pieces were written for Paulus. Anglo's Harp Concerto is an important part of her repertoire, which she has performed many times. Saudade Saudade by Rodriguez is a piece she heard and told the composer that she wanted to record it immediately, and he agreed. Paulus, who also has a Japanese mother, was taught how to fold paper cranes with origami as a child, and in 1997, inspired by a thousand paper cranes she saw at Auschwitz, she asked her longtime friend, Jorge Torres Saenz, to write a piece for harp and strings. The work, titled "Mil y una grullas thousand paper cranes," was completed.She actually sent 1,000 paper cranes to Saenz as a thank you for her work.
