Marek Jandali is a Syrian-American pianist and composer who was born in Germany in 1972 and immigrated to the United States to pursue his musical studies. He has written six symphonies and several orchestral works and concertos. Jandali's works are based on traditional Western musical structures and tonalities, with Syriac and Arabic melodies as major motifs, and have dramatic ups and downs and folk dance elements that will appeal to those drawn to "Scheherazade. The Syrian motif also plays an important role in the two pieces included here. Jandali founded the foundation "Pianos for Peace" to communicate and defend the human rights situation in Syria. Marin Allsop sympathizes with Jandali's activities and music and is an ambassador for the organization, which has recorded his Symphonies No. 4 and No. 6. Naxos Japan
