Description:

The first opera performed in France will be revived on the stage of Versailles under the baton of a specialist in Mediterranean music! Leonardo Garcia Alarcon is a brilliant conductor of baroque operas from Argentina to Europe, especially in French-speaking countries, and has shown a great aptitude for the music of Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Spain. He has conducted not only the operas of Monteverdi, Cavalli, and other relatively well-known masters, but also the dramatic works of Zamponi, Falvetti, Draghi, and other lesser-known composers. In the Royal Opera House at the Palace of Versailles, he newly recorded Sacrati's "The Woman Disguised as Madness," the first opera ever performed in France. This Italian-language opera, performed in December 1645 by the new Italian vizier Mazarin, shortly after the death of Louis XIII, deals with an episode related to Achilles, a warrior in the Trojan War. When it was performed in the French royal court, it included scenes featuring real animals to please the young King Louis XIV, and was very well received. The music of Sacrati, who, like his contemporary Cavalli, was popular in Venice, is brought back to life with a 15-piece orchestra that includes a variety of bass instruments and a singer of great ability, including Mariana Flores, who sings with a free and rapid rhythm. The instrumentalists include Marie-Ange Petit, a percussionist who has supported Les Arts Florissants and the Musique du Palais du Louvre, Keat Gart, a string player with a hundred years of experience, and Juan Manuel Quintana, a master of the gamba.
