Description:

A collection of cantatas by Rudolf Lutz and the Bach Foundation Orchestra. The 37th collection includes No. 3, No. 184, and No. 192. Cantata No. 3, "Oh God, How Many a Heartache," was premiered on the second Sunday after the apparition on January 14, 1725, with a beautiful opening chorus with two oboe d'amore melodies, followed by a second piece with alternating chorale and recitative, a bass aria with a simple accompaniment, and a tenor recitative. After the recitative, the soprano and aria duet, which is the highlight of this cantata, are sung, and the piece closes with a simple chorale. No. 184, "The long-awaited light of joy," is an adaptation of BWV 184a, a secular cantata for celebration (score lost) written in the Keten era. Since Nativity, Easter, and Pentecost were celebrated on three consecutive days in Leipzig at that time, Bach gave up composing a new cantata and used his previous works to get through the intense workload. The instrumentation is surprisingly simple, with only a minimum of strings, a bass continuo, and two flauto-traverso.No. 192, "Come, O Mortals, Give Thanks to God," is a cantata for Trinity Sunday, estimated to have been written around 1730-31. It is a cantata with lyrics based on three verses from the hymn of the same name by Martin Lincart (1586-1649), but the purpose of its use is unknown. The first piece is in the form of a chorale fantasy, the second piece is led by a graceful ritornello and includes a simple duet, and the third piece, also in a simple chorale, is a short but impressive work.
