Description:

During the rehearsal process, we were repeatedly surprised to find such explosiveness, bright colors, and tremendous audacity in Bruckner's symphonies--it required us to question the score and distinguish between false traditions and true traditions. It was a real challenge." --Once Markus Poschner Bruckner had completed a symphony, he often modified it for various reasons, so that there may be several different drafts or editions of the same work, and the avid Bruckner fan will enjoy hearing these differences. The year 2024 marks the bicentennial of Bruckner's birth, and to commemorate the occasion, the second installment of #bruckner2024, a project to record all Bruckner symphonies in their original versions, has already been released. This is the Eighth Symphony (1890 version), considered to be the greatest work of all time. Poschner used a fast tempo and the entire piece was recorded in approximately 77 minutes. The overall performance is tight, but the first and third movements are not light because of the heavy orchestral sound.Another characteristic of this performance is that it emphasizes a wide range of slow and fast movements, and parts that resemble folk songs and folk dances that appear here and there. The way in which the wind instruments are raised to the foreground also shows originality and ingenuity. The score itself is the well-known Novak edition, but it can be inferred that the score was meticulously reread in the performance. Naxos Japan
