Description:

The fifth collection in the series of works by modern Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov is a series of songs with orchestral accompaniment. Vladigerov began composing and playing the piano as a boy and eventually moved to Berlin, where he studied composition with Paul Juon at the Higher School of Music in Berlin and with Friedrich Gernsheim and Georg Schumann at the Prussian Academy of Arts. as a composer and pianist under the director Max Reinhardt, before returning to Bulgaria. In 1933, Vladigerov became a founding member of the Bulgarian Society of Contemporary Music and an important figure in the history of Bulgarian music. It is assumed that Vladigerov was influenced by the orchestral music of Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Hans Pfitzner, and others while in Berlin, and he actively wrote his own works in this genre after returning to Bulgaria. In doing so, he always sought to delve deeply into the folk songs and folk dances of his country by using poems by Bulgarian writers and poets. Some of these works remain popular today, all filled with powerful, vivid melodies and brilliant orchestral sounds. After Vladigerov's death, his works were almost forgotten, but in the 21st century, they have come back into the spotlight and several recordings have been made. Among them, his son, Alexander (1933-1993), recorded 18 albums worth of music for the Capriccio label in the 1970s to carry on the music of his great father into the future. Naxos Japan
