The Sebastian String Quartet places special emphasis on the music of composers from his native Croatia and those who spent most of their lives in Croatia. Kunz was one of the leading Croatian composers of the 20th century and an excellent pianist who was also known as the "Croatian Piano Poet. His only string quartet expands the world of sound by using folk idioms and connecting one diverse piece of music after another. Originally from the Czech Republic, Lotka is a composer who has influenced the Croatian music scene for more than 50 years. Rótka's enchanting "Elegy and Scherzo," with its contrasting themes, is a work born of the spirit of folk music. Slavenski's Quartet is also one of the most interesting Croatian musical works of the 20th century, and while open to the latest European music, Slavenski created this unconventional string quartet completely within his own world, taking no influence from anyone.
