A collection of string works by Robin Stevens, born in 1958 in Manchester, England. His exciting and expressive style is inspired by many things, including Romantic music, mathematics, and his own faith. In 2008, after overcoming a 17-year battle with illness, he wrote the single-movement "String Quartet No. 1," in which "a single theme continues to evolve. In 2011, he composed "String Quartet No. 2," which is completely different from "String Quartet No. 1" in that it features three fictional characters with different personalities. The String Quintet, a work from his student days, demonstrates a technique that has been carried over to his current works, including strikingly strong harmonies and complex counterpoint. Since overcoming his illness, he has written numerous works for a variety of instruments and has released a CD; this performance is by the Behn String Quartet, formed in 2015 and specializing in contemporary music.
