Description:
The third collection of Mendelssohn's Sinfonia for Strings performed by Mihi Gaic and the Orfeo Baroque Orchestra. This time, it includes Nos. 8 and 9, composed between 1822 and 1823, and a concert aria, also written around 1823. Both No. 8 and No. 9 begin with a solemn introduction, and the contrast between the tragic prelude and the light main part is exquisite. The entire piece is permeated with youthful and flowing musicality. The concert aria is a dramatic piece reminiscent of Beethoven, but the technical treatment of the voices in the cabaletta section of the second half shows the influence of Italian opera. The limpid singing of Eutzinger, who specializes in works from the Baroque period, is impressive. Naxos Japan
