In 1762, the historically important peace treaty between Sweden and Prussia, the Treaty of Hamburg, was signed in Hamburg. However, the city's famous St. Michael's Church, which had been lost two years earlier, had just been rebuilt (the tower was still missing), and the rebuilding ceremony was to be held as an official state event. Telemann, the city's music director, was 81 years old at the time, but he composed music for this important event, and in light of the importance of the event, he created music even grander and more splendid than his previous works. The result is a work worthy of being called Telemann's masterpiece. Naxos Japan
