This box contains five Bruckner symphonies performed by Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra, founded in 1918 and now known as one of the top-ranked orchestras not only in the United States but also in the world. The orchestra was trained by George Sell, made popular by Maazel, and refined by Dohnányi. Now, Welser-Möst is bringing it to new heights of appeal. In this performance, you will enjoy not only the interpretation of Bruckner specialist Welser-Möst, but also the differences in sound between the three locations: St. Florian's Abbey, the orchestra's home, Severance Hall, and the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna. DVD1] The special feature of this performance is the use of the rare "Courbet Edition". The version revised by the American researcher Courbet is basically the same as the "Leve Revised Version...Third Draft" of 1889 (of course, there are many changes). For those who are accustomed to hearing the regular version, there may be a number of parts that are unfamiliar.The use of cymbals and other instruments in other parts of the concert, as well as the general reduction of brass, make it easier to hear the strings. DVD2] St. Florian's Abbey is the place where Bruckner served as organist, and his remains are buried under the pipe organ there. In the past, renowned Bruckner conductors such as Celibidacke and Asahina have visited this place to be inspired, and have left behind wonderful performances. The Mesto & Cleveland Orchestra also recorded at this "sacred place" instead of Severance Hall, and the sound is even richer. (1/2) Naxos Japan
