The GHOULIES, a studio project/group whose members include Dave Stewart (key) and Pip Pyle (drs), two of the most famous musicians in the world of Canterbury music, released their only album in '82. DOGGED BY DOGMA" was released on CD for the first time in '25 from Paisley Press label in Germany! The core of this album is the founder of Lounging Records, an independent label known for the release of "D.S. AL CODA" in 1982, which was temporarily reorganized and recorded by NATIONAL HEALTH as a memorial to Alan Gowen, and also the original release source of this album. Charlie Summers is a Welsh multi-instrumentalist/songwriter and founder of Lounging Records, the independent label that originally released this album.This album contains 9 songs by Charlie, recorded by two different groups of Welsh session musicians, with no musicians other than Charlie in common. Dave and Pip are members of "GROUP TWO" and participate in 6 songs on the album. The album is a retrospective of the golden age of Canterbury music from the early 80's new wave/post-punk scene, and has a unique jazz-rock sound that goes beyond mere followers. Charlie's brusque vocal style similar to Richard Sinclair, the blotchy electric piano, the clashing guitars, the coquettish vocals of Elaine Morgan, a female folk singer, the chord progressions and song development with no clear landing point, etc., are just like "back in the day" of Canterbury music. The album is full of elements reminiscent of Canterbury music of "back in the day," but also dotted throughout with post-punk-influenced approaches such as cheap-sounding keyboards and a linear groove.The humor and inflection of the music, which can be described as a cheerful version of the sound of R.I.O. bands that emerged in the early 80's, represented by the RecRec label, is a good example of hidden Canterbury music for the enthusiast's taste!
