Description:

One of the leading British classical/symphonic rock bands, the first RENAISSANCE, formed from the folk duo TOGETHER by Keith Relf (vo/acoustic-g) and Jim McCarrty (dr/vo), formerly of THE YARDBIRDS, has released a 5-CD+DVD box set including live/demo/rare recordings on German label Repertoire Records. The 5-CD+DVD box set including live/demo/rare material is released from Germany's Repertoire Records! As the title says, the box contains the live performance at The Fillmore West in San Francisco, California in March 1970 as the opening act for THE PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND, which was already included in "LIVE + DIRECT" released in '02. The album contains live recordings of 9 shows from the spring of '69 to the spring of '70, including the broadcast recordings for the German music TV program "Beat Club" and BBC Radio in the UK, as well as some recordings that have never appeared officially before.CD4 also includes Jane Relf's version of 'Carpet Of The Sun', which later appeared on ASHES ARE BURNING, 'Prayer For Light' and 'Walking Away' from the soundtrack to the film Schizom, created by core members Keith Relf and Jim McCarty after the first RENAISSANCE stopped playing. The album also includes 'Prayer For Light' and 'Walking Away' from the soundtrack of the film 'Schizom', and 'All The Falling Angels Solo Recordings & Collection 1965- 1976', an anthology of Keith Relf's music released in '20. The DVD includes footage of the aforementioned "Beat Club" appearance and a documentary filmed in 1969. Restored and remastered by Eroc of GROBSCHNITT with the help of original members Jim McCarty and Louis Cennamo. While the band sound is the main focus of the album, the delicate drumming, cleverly obbligato bass, and light upright piano add a jazzy touch, while some of the songs are folk/folk with the beautiful and humid voice of Jane Relf, Keith's younger sister. The classical/folk style of this album is the same as their debut album from 1969, but it has the vibrancy and roughness of a live performance, and shows the charm of a live band that is different from the impression of the studio album. The buds that lead to the second RENAISSANCE with Annie Haslam and ILLUSION can be seen everywhere, but due to the short period of activity, releases from the official side were scarce, and the true image of the first RENAISSANCE, which has not been appreciated as much as the second period, is captured in this album. This is a definitive box that captures the true image of the first phase of RENAISSANCE, which has been less appreciated compared to the second phase.
