Marie-Catherine Giraud is well-known at the Forgeurne Festival for her beautiful piano works by female Romantic composers. She is a veteran female pianist who, along with Kéfélec, is a leading figure in the contemporary French piano world. Her performances are characterized by delicacy and fragrance, and offer a taste of French pianism at its finest. She is also a keen recordist of rare repertoire, and her superb performances of these pieces make her a rare treasure. This album of piano music by female composers is intriguing, but the selection is elaborate, as one would expect from Giraud. The composers are narrowed down from the early to the late Romantic period, and the countries range from North and South Europe to the United States. The album features a wide variety of music from relatives of famous composers such as Schumann (his wife), Mendelssohn (his sister), and Gottschalk (his sister) to highly regarded composers such as Beach, Smythe, Chaminade, and Tailleferre, as well as Hélène de Montgerud, the first female professor of piano at the Paris Conservatory of Music. You will be able to enjoy a wide variety of music.
