Description:
A Rare and Indispensable Figure in the Contemporary Music Scene Arca Releases His Long-Awaited New Album—His First in Five Years!! Arca, a Venezuelan musician, producer, vocalist, and visual artist, has become an indispensable figure in the contemporary music scene. Following his 2020 album *KiCki*, which earned him two Grammy nominations, he continues the five-part *KICK* series (*KickII* (2021), *KickIII* (2021), *KickIIII* (2021), *kiCKiiiii* (2021)), he makes his long-awaited comeback with the full-length album *XXXXX*. If the KICK series expanded Arca’s universe outward, the latest release, *XXXXX*, is an album that turns inward and shatters it. Across 16 tracks, it refuses to be confined to any single form, unearthing a wide range of emotions while presenting a darker, more aggressive, and more experimental side. Originally conceived as a mixtape but ultimately released as a full-length album, *XXXXX* carries on the spirit of Arca’s previous mixtapes, *@@@@@* (2020) and *&&&&&* (2013). The album’s striking artwork depicts Arca as a biomechanical entity alongside two owls—symbols of protection and the underworld in Greek mythology. Suspended between post-human expansion and raw emotion, *XXXXX* articulates the question that has become Arca’s lifelong project: What does it mean to be human—as both a part of the machine and as a human resisting it? For Arca, regeneration and self-transformation are not metaphors but practices. She continues to exist simultaneously in multiple states, dissolving the boundaries between human and machine, high culture and local culture, and experimental noise and pop music. Over the past year, Arca has been vigorously pursuing her creative endeavors. She released the double A-side single “Puta”/“Sola” and has remixed tracks by the next-generation pop icon Addison Rae, pop legend Robin—whose latest album *Sexistential* has also generated significant buzz—and Hikaru Utada, among others. Furthermore, he released the collaboration track “Chama” with Tokisha and contributed to the production of Madonna’s *CONFESSIONS II*. While appearing on runways at major international fashion weeks, he also composed the soundtrack for the film *Barrio Triste*, written and directed by Stills, who has also directed music videos for Yuki Chiba. After years of quiet transformation, Arca’s next musical evolution is now revealed in his latest album, *XXXXX*.
