Bernard Herman's only opera "Arashi Oka", known for Hitchcock's "Vertigo", "Psycho", and "North by Northwest"! American composer Bernard Herman (1911-1975), known for Hitchcock's "Vertigo," "Psycho," and "North by Northwest" as well as film scores for "Citizen Kane" and "Fahrenheit 451," left behind his only opera "The Hills of Storm". Although it was composed at the same time as the film music for "Jane Eyre" and completed in 1951, it was never performed in its complete form during Herman's lifetime. Arashi no Oka" is of particular interest to film buffs because of its various allusions to Herman's other film music and the reuse of themes from this work in his later film music. Here we enjoy the world premiere recording of the suite version by Hans Seansen, with songs by Keri Fuge, Roderick Williams, and others, and great orchestral sound conducted by Mario Venzago. The string orchestra version of "Echo," conducted by Joshua Tan and arranged by Hans Seansen, is also noteworthy. Tokyo M-Plus
