Lortie, who in recent years has recorded a variety of concertos, including Saint-Saëns, has made his first solo recording in a long time. Placing two pieces from "Requiem," transcribed by Lortie himself, at the beginning and end of the program, the program is centered around two masterpieces, "Ballade" and "Theme and Variations," with brilliant pieces from nocturnes and boat songs. Lorti, who is also popular for his masterful recordings of French music by Ravel, Poulenc, Saint-Saens, and others, will spell out Gabriel Fauré's charming melodies and harmonies with the beautiful sound of the Fazioli piano.
