The collaborative album "Let the Soil Play Itself Simple Part" is released on NONESUCH. Caroline Shaw is a New York-based vocalist, violinist, composer, and producer. Last year, her composition "Orange," performed by the Atacca Quartet, won the 62nd Grammy Award for "Best Chamber Music or Small Ensemble Performance," and she has garnered a great deal of attention among young contemporary American composers, and now she has joined the spirited Brooklyn, NY-based She has completed a new collaborative album with the up-and-coming percussion quartet So Percussion, based in Brooklyn, New York.In January of this year, Saw Percussion participated in the Shaw composition "NARROW SEA" with four-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw and pianist Gilbert Kalish, who also specializes in contemporary works. The new album "Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part," to be released this time, is a follow-up collaboration with Shaw. Having known each other since their days as music students, they were given three days of studio time and decided to try out an idea that came to them while working on "NARROW SEA".Here, Shaw took on vocals for the first time and shaped his musical ideas in the studio with members Eric Cha-Beach, Josh Quillen, Adam Sliwinski, and Jason Treuting of So Percussion, and created lyrics that ranged from James Joyce to The result is a minimalist, avant-garde sound world that is at once contemporary and avant-garde, combined with lyrics that draw from a wide range of inspirations, from the poetry of Anne Carson, the biblical book of Lutz, the chant book "Sacred Harp," and the American roots song "I'll Fly Away," to ABBA. avant-garde sound world that is at once contemporary and avant-garde.
