Description:
A compilation of the greatest recordings left by the legendary conductor who died prematurely, the 86 CD + bonus DVD box set brings together all the recordings made for Deutsche Grammophon by Hungarian-born conductor Ferenc Flitchai (1914-1963), in 2014 and 2015. Two boxed sets of orchestral and vocal works released in 2014 and 2015, respectively, and a newly remastered "Mozart Radio Broadcast" set of recordings discovered in the vaults of the "Deutschlandfunk Kurtur" (German cultural center radio broadcasting) released in 2018. 86 CD + bonus DVD box set, limited edition. The limited edition DVD features rare footage of rehearsals and performances of Dukas's symphonic poem "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and Kodaly's "Hari János" Suite, both conducted by Ferenc Flitschai. Ferenc Flitchai died at the young age of 48, and although he only recorded for 12 years (1949-1961), he is known as a legendary artist, a knowledgeable conducting master who could handle anything with skill. He was a conductor who combined a rigorous musical spirit with human warmth. The recordings he left behind are among the greatest in the history of postwar classical performance. His recordings of Bartók and Kodály are considered definitive, Beethoven's symphonies (Nos. 1, 3, 5, 7-9) and opera "Fidelio," Mozart's famous symphonies (Nos. 29, 35, 39-41) by Fritschke (Nos. 29 and 41 were recorded twice), and his legendary concertos with Clara Haskil, Mozart's operas (Abduction from the Hollow, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Idomeneo, The Marriage of Figaro) and Requiem, Tchaikovsky's symphonies (Nos. 4-6), mono and stereo recordings of Strauss waltzes, Verdi's Requiem (1953 & 1960), Haydn's The Seasons ), Haydn's Four Seasons (1952 & 1961), and Wagner's The Wandering Dutchman. The 212-page booklet includes a CD with an interview with Flitschai about himself (in German with English summary in the booklet), new texts by Flitschai fans Tully Potter and Gottfried Krauss, as well as texts by Flitschai's daughter Elsa Schiller, the president of Deutsche Grammophon at the time, legendary collaborators Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Yehudi Menuhin, and many rare photographs. The 212-page booklet also includes new texts by Fritjscher's daughter Elsa Schiller, the then president of Deutsche Grammophon, and legendary collaborators Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Yehudi Menuhin, as well as many rare photographs.
