This album combines joyful singing and a variety of instruments in a recreation of "The Christmas Evening" as it might have been heard in St. Mark's Basilica in Venice by Monteverdi, the court music director in the first half of the 17th century. It is a perfect Baroque Christmas experience for the ears. Performing are the renowned La Chetra Baroque Orchestra Basel and La Chetra Vocal Ensemble, an ancient music orchestra and choir based in Basel, Switzerland, and the impressive large "Zanin Organ" at the Municipal Museum of Santa Caterina in Treviso. Andrea Marcon is a conductor, organist, harpsichordist, and scholar from Treviso, Italy, and a specialist in ancient music performance.
