Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

Description:

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of his death, a 107-CD box set of song recordings by the greatest baritone singer of the 20th century! This year marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, the German baritone who was called "the most influential singer of the 20th century" by Leonard Bernstein. To commemorate this occasion, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing a 107-CD box set, the first time all of his recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, and Philips have been compiled and released together. The 107-CD box set includes many discs that are being released on CD for the first time. From Adan to Zemlinsky, you can hear all of Fischer-Dieskau's song recordings, spanning over 50 years from 1949 (Brahms' Four Solemn Songs) to 2003 (Melodrama), and representing his entire musical life. Almost all songs written by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, and R. Strauss for male singers are included. Also included are rarely heard pieces such as Schubert's duets and quartets, Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14, Zemlinsky's "Lyric Symphony," and Rudi Stefan's "The Magic of Love."Schubert's song cycle Winterreise will be released on four different recordings (1965/Jörg Dames, 1971/Gerald Moore, 1979/Daniel Barenboim, 1985/Alfred Brendel), and Brahms' song cycle The Beautiful Magellone, read by Fischer= Brahms' song cycle "The Beautiful Magellone" will be released for the first time on Deutsche Grammophon with Fischer-Dieskau's readings. The 200-page booklet contains a detailed essay and many photos, including some never before published. Universal Music/IMS
