Kent Nagano & the Montreal Symphony Orchestra's first Decca contract, L'Aiglon (The Eagle's Child) is a five-act comedy in collaboration between Honegger and Ibert. Honegger is in charge of acts 2, 3, and 4, while Ibert is in charge of acts 1 and 5. The story is based on Edmond Rostand's play "The Eagle Child" (1900), for which Henri Cain wrote the script. It was premiered on March 11, 1937 at the Monte Carlo Opera House to great acclaim, with the then famous soprano Fanny Heardy in the leading role. The Decca label has now signed a contract with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Kent Nagano, and has chosen this unusual work for its first release. Kent Nagano, who is known for his enthusiasm for this type of work, has chosen singers who are all fluent in French to bring to vivid life this fascinating and little-known work. Universal Music/IMS
