To commemorate the 65th birthday of world-renowned countertenor René Jacobs, this box set compiles his finest vocal performances from recordings by DHM, SEON, and SONY. His beautiful voice and vocal technique are unique; he seamlessly transitions from falsetto to chest voice, creating no discernible difference in timbre between his high and low registers. Furthermore, with his deep, gallant voice, he is arguably the singer who best allows listeners to fully appreciate his compelling and distinctive artistic vision. René Jacobs is a countertenor and conductor born in Belgium in 1946. He began his musical career as a member of the Ghent Cathedral Boys’ Choir. He studied classical philology in Brussels and The Hague. Encouraged to pursue a career as a countertenor by Leonhard, the Kuijken brothers, and Alfred Deller—among others—he was hailed as one of the most renowned singers of Deller’s next generation and has participated in numerous recordings. In the 1970s, he founded his own ensemble, “Concerto Vocale,” and began his career as a conductor. In recent years, he has conducted symphonies and operas by Monteverdi, Haydn, and Mozart. He has also conducted the Concerto Köln, the Berlin Academy of Early Music, and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, earning high acclaim. Sony Music
