Griello & Sardelli Make Their Debut on Glossa! Restoring Vivaldi’s Lost Concertos! Federico Griello, a virtuoso who, alongside his father Giovanni Griello, served as concertmaster of the New Italian Ensemble for two generations. Federico Maria Sardelli has produced valuable recordings—including newly discovered works by Vivaldi—with “Mode Antico,” the early music orchestra he founded. These two renowned Italian virtuosos—who can truly be called Vivaldi specialists—make their debut on the Spanish early music label Glossa. This landmark first release on Glossa is a wonderful project that restores six previously incomplete pieces from the repertoire of Anna Maria, who was Vivaldi’s most talented pupil at the Pietà. The “Anna Maria Part Book,” preserved as part of Anna Maria’s personal repertoire, contains 31 violin concertos, 26 of which are by Vivaldi. Furthermore, while 20 of these are known from other manuscript sources, the remaining six had no source other than Anna Maria’s and had remained incomplete. Federico Maria Sardelli reconstructed these three “Violin Concertos” and three “Concertos for Violin and Organ” based on a wealth of authentic sources, and they have been brilliantly brought to life by Federico Guillermo’s exquisite violin playing and and Roberto Lorejan on the organ.
