In this new album, Lorraine James reinterprets and reimagines his major compositions as her response to Eastman, her third new album in total.Julius Eastman was a homosexual black composer, pianist, vocalist, and dancer who sadly passed away at the young age of 49. Although best known for his collaborations with Arthur Russell and Meredith Monk, he was a drug addict and homeless man who passed away quietly, out of the spotlight. However, his legacy of creative works is far more worthy of celebration than impoverishment. Although only a small portion of his music unfortunately survives, this work represents a portrait of the composer in glorious and beautiful shades, perfectly in step with the great composers of our time that we can name.
