Description:
An outstanding recording. Jansons & the Concertgebouw Orchestra present a masterful performance of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7. Finally available on vinyl! Since Eduard van Beinum served as principal conductor from 1945 to 1959, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra has built a tradition of Bruckner performances that ranks among the world’s finest. And the late Mariss Jansons, who served as the orchestra’s chief conductor from 2004 to 2015, added a new chapter to that illustrious history. Jansons believed that refinement, rather than mere grandeur, was paramount in Bruckner’s music; while respecting the tradition passed down by the orchestra, he meticulously refined every nuance of the sound. His Bruckner is never bombastic, but is filled with a warm, pulsating vitality. The rhythm is not merely marked out with precision, but breathes as something the listener can deeply feel. This recording features Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7, the work that brought him international success and remains immensely popular to this day. Jansson’s interpretation, characterized by his unique blend of intimacy and energy, fully conveys the appeal of this monumental work. The year 2012, when this recording was made, was a fulfilling one in which Jansons continued his energetic activities around the world, including appearances at the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert and the Salzburg Festival, as well as the successful Beethoven series during his tour of Japan with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. His boundless creativity and rich musicality are vividly imprinted on this performance. This album—the culmination of Jansson’s pursuit of an exquisitely refined expression of beauty during his tenure as chief conductor, combined with the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s unparalleled sound—has also been highly acclaimed as an outstanding recording. Originally released as a SACD Hybrid paired with Symphony No. 6, this recording is now being released for the first time as a standalone 180-gram LP featuring Symphony No. 7. RCOLIVE
