World-renowned Canadian vocalist Holly Cole's 13th studio album, "Dark Moon," is now available. The new album is a true ensemble project, highlighting her unique style with the help of new musicians in addition to her longtime live performance partners. About the new album, she says, "I had a strong desire to incorporate the spirit of improvisation into this album. At the same time, I believe that the essence of the sound of my music lies in the arrangements. We went into the studio with very little rehearsal beforehand, so while we were in the studio, every song felt tremendously fresh to us. The musicians I play with all contribute greatly to the arrangement of the songs. I wanted to hear each of them in their own moment of light, and the majority of the arrangements came together as we all played together. What you will hear when the album is finished is the moment we discover what we love about the song, and that is the essential part for me," said Holly herself.While her smoky voice on the new album is sensual and her arrangements are smart and sexy, she and the musicians behind her have reworked traditional jazz, pop, and country standards in a unique way, this time in particular with songs by writers from the "New American Songbook," including Marty Balin, Peggy Lee, Hal David, Burt Bacharach, and Johnny Mercer. The album will be released as a 2-CD deluxe edition coupled with a special bonus live disc featuring two additional live recordings of Johnny Nash's hit "I Can See Clearly Now" recorded at Glenn Gould Studios in 2011 and "Calling You" recorded in Montreal in 1995.Released in 2021, the album "Montreal (Live)" celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2019 with a special concert at the Lion's D'Or cabaret in Montreal, where the original members of the Holly Cole Trio reunited with David Pitch (bass) and Aaron Davis (piano) to perform.
