Description:
This is a collection of three concerto works performed by the Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra based in Nagoya, Japan, and the Belgian-born clarinetist Eddy VanOosthase. Hindemith's Clarinet Concerto was written in 1947 at the request of Benny Goodman, and premiered by Goodman in 1950 (with the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Ormandy), it is a playful work with Hindemith's unique harmonies and neo-classical form. Van der Roost's concerto was commissioned by Van Oosterhase, a close friend of the composer. This performance was not only the first performance in Japan, but also the world premiere recording. It is a technical and delicate work that demands the utmost expressiveness from the clarinet. Composed by Richard Strauss at the age of 15, "Romance" is a beautiful work in a traditional style. It was so important to him as a student that it was originally given the title Op.27 (this work catalog was later destroyed). Naxos Japan
