Works for Violin," which includes the last works by composer Maxwell Davies, who passed away in March 2016. Three of the pieces, including "Journey to a Distant Island," which reflects the scenery of his beloved Orkney Islands, were composed in the 21st century. The "Sonata," dedicated to violinist Duccio Cecanti, who performed Davis's works energetically in his later years and helped popularize his work, is a 20-minute long work. The "Dance for Two Fiddles," written relatively early in his career, is an insert for an opera for children. The Violin Sonata, an "imaginative stroll through ancient Rome," is a sonata fantasy that takes the listener on a sonic journey through various scenes. All performed by Davis's good friend Cecanti, recorded in 2009/2016. (C)RS
