Description:
This is the second collection of flute concertos by François Dovienne, a composer active in France at the end of the 18th century. Most of his works were written for wind instruments, and there are 13 flute concertos extant. They fall into roughly three groups: the first four were composed before 1785, Nos. 5-9 around 1787-1794, and Nos. 10-13 in his later years. The mid-period works on this album show the transition of his style, with each piece adding experimental (and technical) elements and gradually refining the tune. As in the first album, with virtuoso Patrick Gallois on flute and the dashing Swedish Chamber Orchestra. 2015 recording. (C)RS
