Helene Liebmann, a German woman musician active in the first half of the 19th century, is sometimes referred to by her premarital surname Liese or her post-rename surname Liebert. Born into a Jewish banking family, she was recognized for her musical talent at a young age. After changing her name and naturalizing in Hamburg in 1819, she retired from piano performance and composition and became known only as a concert singer. Her Op. 11 includes two works, the Grand Sonata for cello and piano and the Grand Trio. The Sonata is a work in which the cello sings a flowing melody. The third movement is a variation on a theme from Mozart's "Don Giovanni. The Trio is a large-scale work dedicated to his teacher Ries, and is intended not for home use but for concert performance. The Violin Sonata follows the style of the Viennese Classical School, but also has a Romantic expression, combining elegance and power. Naxos Japan
