Description:
Jakob Lenz" is based on a novel by Georg Buechner, based on the playwright Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz, who actually existed during the Sturm und Drang period. It depicts Lenz's journey across the mountains to the Reverend Oberlein and his gradual descent into madness during an extended stay at his home. Rihm's "Jacob Lenz," based on the novel, is known as the "most frequently performed modern opera" in 20th century Germany, with atonal but memorable music and elaborate writing using various techniques, including the use of coloratura techniques at times. The video, recorded for the first time, presents a convincing world through a naked depiction of a man's gradual descent into madness, contrasting the inescapable reality and delusion that he embodies with the helpless friends who witness him. Nigl, who sings the leading role of Lenz, is a baritone singer from Austria. He is a mid-career singer who specializes in Bach and contemporary works. Naxos Japan
