Description:
Duo of Mariko Hara & Ryoji Ariyoshi! This is an album by a Japanese duo of viola and piano. It features Schumann's only viola work, Fairy Tale Book, a collection of fantasy pieces written for clarinet but often performed on viola, and the viola sonatas of Brahms and Hindemith, important works for viola players. Mariko Hara (Mariko Hara Haselsteiner) graduated from the Music Department of Toho Girls' High School and the University of Toho in 2007. She also studied at the Geneva Conservatory and the Cologne Conservatory, where she studied under such virtuosos as Nobuko Imai, Antoine Tamestit, and Stephen Isserlis, and won second prize in the viola section of the 2006 Johannes Brahms International Competition. He is based in Vienna and active as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe and Japan. Ryoji Ariyoshi is a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts and a pianist who has won prizes at national and international competitions, including first prize at the Japan Music Competition. He has performed with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and other orchestras around the world. Tokyo M-Plus
