Description:
Trio Testore, a mature piano trio, takes on the difficult Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff! SACD hybrid disc of sad works in mourning of the death of a friend and senior member of the trio. The new album by the piano trio "Trio Testore," which has been showing an increasingly mature ensemble since its formation 10 years ago, features the difficult Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff piano trios. Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio in A minor, Op.50 was written in 1882, when Tchaikovsky was 42 years old. This lengthy trio consists of two movements, but the second movement, a variation, is divided into two parts, and the final variation and coda are large enough to form part of their own piece. In Memory of a Great Artist," as it is commonly called, is a memorial to Nikolai Rubinshtein, and is generally dominated by a mournful, solemn tone that evokes Tchaikovsky's unique sentiment of sentimentality. The Trio Testore is a solid ensemble with a sense of stability, although it requires a high level of playing technique. Rachmaninoff's Piano Trio No. 1 was composed and premiered in 1892. Together with No. 2, it is called the "Trio of Sorrows," and is said to have been composed in mourning for the death of Tchaikovsky. It is full of superb piano technique and rich Russian emotion, as was typical of Rachmaninoff, who was a pianist. <Trio Testore" is a trio formed in 2000. Violinist Frantiska Pietsch, who made her solo debut at the age of 11, is a precocious virtuoso who was a member of the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2002 and then the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 to 2010. The cello will be played by Hans-Christia Schweiker, a disciple of the great Soviet master Pergamenschikov. He is already active as a pedagogue, and many young pianists, including Danjulo Ishizaka, have studied with him. Hyunjung Kim-Schweiker, the youngest of the trio, is also a promising young talent from Korea who won the first prize at the 2008 Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia. In 2011, the trio founded the chamber music festival Mai-Klassik. The name of the group comes from the surnames of the makers of the stringed instruments they use, both of which were made by "Testore" (the violin was made by Carlo Antonio Testore in 1751, and the cello by Carlo Joseppe Testore in 1711).
