Paul Huang, who is attracting worldwide attention, makes his CD debut with two sonatas by Respighi and Saint-Saens that are both highly technical and superbly beautiful. The program includes the Respighi Sonata and the Saint-Saens Sonata, both of which require a high level of virtuosity, and both of which have beautiful melodies that are rarely performed. Paul Huang's performance is not technically difficult, but rather fully expresses the beauty and lyricism of the works. The Paganini in the intervals, the rich singing and sublime portamento in the Chopin that closes the disc, and the beautiful, thin, shimmering high notes in the melody are reminiscent of the greats of the SP era. Paul Huang was born in Taiwan and started playing the violin at the age of 7, fascinated by "its beautiful tone and rich singing," and won the 2011 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.He is the recipient of the 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 2017 Lincoln Center Emerging Artists Award for Outstanding Young Talent. She has performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra under Gergiev and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under Slatkin. Helen Huang, piano, is a pianist who has worked with Paul Huang for many years. Born in Japan to Taiwanese parents, she graduated from the Juilliard School in 2004 with the Artur Rubinshtein Prize and continued her studies at Yale University.
