This program is a portrait of the finest works for woodwinds written in the unique symphonic style that originated in Paris in the late 18th century during Mozart's time. All of the composers featured are closely related to Mozart, and their works are full of the same spirit, and in the same beautiful, elegant, expressive, and vivacious style. All of these composers explored the possibilities of the wind instrument, a new and improved instrument at the time, and wrote effective and powerful works. The concerto symphonies by these composers for two to five wind players, written for winds and orchestra, are all technical and powerful, and should sound like Mozart's operas. Recording the Sinfonia Concertante has always been a dream project for Les Vents Francais. The concerto symphony is not simply a combination of woodwind quintet and orchestra, but requires a strong soloist leadership from the players.The most exciting performance for Les Vents Francais, bringing together Pajou, Leroux, Meyer, Odin, and Vlatkovich, is the opportunity to further develop their individual art, making the most of the experience gained from their solo and conducting activities, chamber music, and music festivals.
